There is no denying that we are in a total digital generation.  The youth of the today are growing up with technology all around them, from the computers, cell phones, smart phones, video games, high definition televisions and the internet.  A student today that goes to school is now actually learning less.  How could this be possible you ask? Well for one reason, we are not focused as students like we were in the past. 

Another culprit to the students learning less is that today students can look up whatever information they need to learn about very quickly.  Unfortunately the students are not retaining this information because very little reading is involved in doing the research.  That being the case are youth is in the find it and forget it generation.  The internet is actually hurting students in the long run for this reason.

Distractions that come from using all this technology is also a huge problem.  We have all seen the people walking through the grocery store or the malls who are too busy texting that they are not paying attention to what is around them. I have actually seen people walk into signs that are in the isles of stores because they are too busy texting.  There was a girl in Pennsylvania at a mall, who was texting and walking and actually walked right into a water fountain!

The fact that many students can find information fast and with little effort is also making students lazy and wanting to do less and less.  Not just the students but all across the country, we are watching more television and having more televisions in our house than ever before.  Video games are being played more today as well, which takes up a lot of precious time for which they should be studying. 

Technology today is also moving and changing so fast that many people cannot even keep up with it all.  Many today feel like they have to buy the latest and greatest, but they will invent the newest and best yesterday so do not try.  With all the influences and factors of technology today students are certainly learning less and becoming lazier and wanting more.  In my opinion it is okay to use technology but use it in moderation and not for everything.  Also put in the time and actually study, look information up and retain what you learn because it will help you out much better in the future.
